While there are some women who experience dry skin only during the winter season, there are some who suffer from dry skin throughout the year. Dry skin can be a source of distress as it causes stretchiness and flaky itchy skin.

Dry skin is sensitive to harsh weather conditions and atmospheric pollution. Hence it demands proper and regular skin care routine to protect it from damage.

It has to be realized that dry skin is not an ailment and cannot be cured completely. However with proper care it can be made soft and supple. Here are some simple dry skin care tips for you –

Dry skin requires continuous moisturizing. Human skin has oil glands that secrete oil to keep skin moist and prevent drying. People have dry skin when these oil glands fail to secrete enough oil. Now this is a natural phenomenon and cannot be changed. But what can be done is to provide moisture to your skin externally to avoid dryness.

There are various skin care products for dry skin available in the market. Try avoiding products that are based on petroleum products like petroleum jelly. Our skin cannot absorb such products.

They remain only on the surface without providing any internal nourishment. Instead use creams and moisturizers that have vitamins A, D and E, natural or essential oils etc. that can be absorbed by the skin, making it soft and nourished from within.

Cocoa butter, olive oil, almond oil, coconut oil, Shea butter, milk cream etc, are few of the best natural moisturizers for dry skin. Always apply a moisturizer on your entire body after taking a bath. Never bathe in hot water. Hot water destroys natural moisture in the skin. Warm water is best for you.

If a normal sunscreen lotion is not enough for you, try an oil based sunscreen lotion or a sunscreen cream with moisturizer. Always apply a proper night cream for dry skin before going to bed so that you can wake up to a healthy soft skin in the morning.

Mix olive oil with honey and lime juice. Apply it on your face and rinse when dry. It will not only moisturize your skin but will also add glow to your skin. You can also try a mix of milk cream and glycerin daily for a healthy skin.

Dry skin can also look healthy and beautiful. All it requires is regular care and a proper skin care routine for dry skin.
