Home Remedies To Cure Cracked Hands

Cracked hands are a common problem caused by over exposure to water and chemicals in soaps, dry and harsh winters or constant friction. All of these sap the moisture from the skin and irritate it leading to reddish, cracked and callused hands. The first step to turning your cracked hands back to normal and then soft and smooth would be to protect them from further harm.

Preventive Measures To Cure Cracked Hands

Avoid Abrasive Soaps

Chemicals in soaps and detergents lead to skin infections and remove the natural oils from your skin as well. Use cleansers which contain moisturizing properties for washing hands.

Mild hand washes which are soap free and gentle and deposit a protective moisturizing layer are ideal. Try to use a salon for hair washes as shampooing your hair yourself might further worsen the condition of your hands.

Wear Gloves And Avoid Exposing Hands To Water

Cracked hands should be protected from further damage by water by wearing rubber gloves while having to do chores like washing dishes etc. Also if possible try to avoid doing chores which require handling of water. Keep your hands exposure to water as minimum as possible and do not use too cold or too warm water.

Use A Humidifier At Home

Using an AC or a heater at home further zaps away moisture and dries your skin leading to dry itchy skin. Keeping a humidifier helps to retain moisture and keep your skin well hydrated.

Use Creams Liberally

After every wash apply a hand cream or a layer of petroleum jelly to your cracked hands. Also make it a point to apply a liberal dose of hand cream and put on cotton gloves before going to sleep in the night.

Protect your skin from the sun by applying sunscreen on your hands too. This prevents aging of hands and of course provides protection from the drying rays of the sun.

Use gloves In cold Weather

Don’t forget to wear woollen or leather gloves while venturing out into the cold.
