Pigmentation is a very mild skin problem which is indicated by uneven skin tones and dark patches on skin. Though it is not a very major health problem, these dark patches can be very annoying since it affects one’s appearance.
Even and blemish-free skin tone with smooth texture is what everyone desire for and pigmentation marks cannot be tolerated if you are appearance-conscious.
There are lots of home remedies to remove these pigmentation marks using cheap and natural ingredients. But before treating any health problem, it is better to know the causes of it.
What Causes Pigmentation?
Our skin cells contain melanocytes, which create melanin. Melanin is the substance that gives color to your skin and hair. If the amount of this skin pigment is high or low, it will be reflected in our skin tone. When there is excess level of melanin in your skin, you to tend to get darker skin tone and dark patches at some places.

People with less melanin levels in skin tend to be fair-skinned. If there is sudden increase in its amount they may get uneven patches on skin. Areas such as knuckles, elbows and the knees may get pigmentation marks first and it will gradually spread to other parts.
Besides uneven light brown or dark brown colored patches, pigmentation marks will come in the form of blemish marks on the face and other parts of the skin. Pregnancy, certain skin diseases, excessive exposure to the sun, inadequate sleeping and irregular eating habits etc. may also cause pigmentation marks.
Simple Home Remedies for Pigmentation
Most of the ingredients involved in these home remedies are cheap and easy to get. You will get most of them from your kitchen cupboards itself. Combine equal amounts of milk powder, lemon juice, honey and a lesser amount of almond oil to get a creamy paste.
Apply this on to the skin and leave it there for 20 minutes and wash off with tap water. This is really effective in diminishing dark spots and in lending a natural glow to your face.
A mixture of about five grounded almonds (soaked overnight), one teaspoon of fresh cream and a few drops of lemon juice can be put on the affected area before rinsing off. Take raw potato juice and apply it on skin. Potato is enriched with natural bleaching properties, and hence very effective in lightening your skin.

Another easy home remedy for pigmentation is a mix of plain oatmeal and unflavored yogurt.You can even add tomato juice to this mixture for added effectiveness.
Mint leaves and from basil (tulsi) leaves are some excellent herbs that can significantly lighten the skin tone. Apply the juice of mint or basil leaves or a paste of them on the affected areas.
Another effective way to reduce dark pigmentation marks and to lighten overall skin tone is to apply a blend of 20 quantity of hydrogen peroxide, two tablespoonful of milk powder and a few glycerin drops. This mixture should stay on the skin for about20 minutes. After rinsing off, don’t forget to apply some good moisturizer.
Splashing vinegar on skin is effective in cleansing the skin and removing dark tones. Apply sufficient amount of Vitamin E oil on the pigmented areas. You can add some castor oil to this for further effectiveness.
These treatments should be done regularly to get the desired results. Stick to one remedy so that your skin will get adjusted to that and will give results.
Including lots of fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, sleeping for at least eight hours and quitting smoking and drinking are some lifestyle changes to get glowing skin without any dark patches and pigmentation marks.
