Homemade Rose Petal Cream
We have all heard of Cleopatra’s secret recipe for rose petal cream, which according to legend gave her a clean, clear, smooth, glowing and of course rosy complexion. However, her secret is out in the open with many cosmetic companies having introduced rose petal creams in the market.
These creams are pretty expensive and contain chemicals that can be harsh on your skin. A good alternative to using these commercially available creams is to make one at home yourself. The recipe is easy and you will definitely be limiting use of chemicals in the cream.
To prepare rose petal cream you will require:
2 ounces rose oil
2 ounces of Rose Petal extract
2 ounces beeswax
4 ounces of rosewater with 1 teaspoon of powdered Borax.
Half cup almond oil
1 teaspoon anhydrous lanolin (lanolin from which water of crystallization has been removed)
Begin preparing the cream by heating the lanolin along with beeswax in water in a pan. Be careful neither to burn the wax nor bring it to a boil. Keep on low flame. Once the wax has melted remove from heat and pour half cup almond oil in the pan. Now add the borax-rosewater mixture and rose petal extracts in to the pan.
Blend all the liquids well till the mixture cools down to room temperature. Once the mixture is at normal temperature add rose oil for fragrance. Beat the mixture well with a wooden spoon. As the mixture cools down further it will turn semi solid of easy to apply consistency. Pour this cream in a lidded glass jar or bottle. Your rose petal cream is ready for use.
Rose petal cream is excellent for day use as it is not heavily oily. Apply the cream on your face, hands and even neck areas. Rub the cream in to the skin in gentle circular motions.
Rose petal cream can also double up as a moisturizer to be used under makeup. Rose oil used in the cream not only imparts the light fragrance of roses to the cream but also helps reduce signs of aging by working on fine lines, wrinkles and blemishes. It is extremely gentle on the skin since it contains minimum chemicals. Fresh rose petals extract keeps the skin blossomed like the fresh roses of spring.
